What happens to my money if an item is cancelled, costs less, or the property doesn't sell

Updated 2 min read

Money a campaign no longer needs stays with your campaign as refund credit, and whatever is left is refunded to you when the campaign is completed. Your money is held by Stripe, against your campaign, until each supplier is paid. It isn't spent on anything you haven't approved.

If an item is cancelled

If your agency cancels an item before its supplier is paid, that item's money becomes refund credit on your campaign. VPA Connect emails you to say so.

If an item costs less

If a job is finished for less than its budget, or swapped to a cheaper supplier, the difference becomes refund credit. VPA Connect emails you when an item is closed for less.

What refund credit is used for

If your agent later proposes a change, refund credit pays for it first. You see this as Refund credit in the Funding breakdown when you review the change, and you pay only what's left, or nothing. You still approve or reject the change yourself. See Approving extra items, supplier swaps and additional funding.

Getting it back

When your agency completes the campaign, any refund credit left over is refunded to the card or bank account you paid from. VPA Connect emails you when the campaign is completed, with what was refunded. If you paid with Pay Later, the leftover goes back to Campaign Flow and comes off your loan; your completion email and campaign page show the amount.

There's no separate button to ask for a refund earlier. If you want to talk about it, contact your agent.

If the property doesn't sell

Whether unspent marketing money comes back depends on your agency agreement (and, with Pay Later, the finance terms), not on VPA Connect. Ask your agent. Money already paid to suppliers for work they've done isn't refunded.

Common questions

Do I get my money back? Refund credit that's left when the campaign is completed is refunded to you. Money paid to suppliers for their work is not.

When? When your agency completes the campaign, usually after the marketing is finished.

To which card or account? The one you paid from.

Who decides? Your agency proposes changes and completes the campaign. You approve or reject any change that uses your money.
