Getting paid: from job done to money in your bank

Updated 3 min read

Every job goes through the same five stages. You act at stage 2; the agency acts at stage 3; Stripe does the rest.

  1. The seller pays the campaign. The money for your job is held by VPA Connect. The job appears on your Outstanding page as Held (see The Outstanding page). Until the seller pays, you won't see the job at all.
  2. You ask to be paid. When the work is done, or a stage of it, submit a payment request from the job (see Submit a payment request).
  3. The agency releases the payment. Someone at the agency with permission to release payments checks your request and releases it, or rejects it. You get an email either way, with your invoice when it's released.
  4. Stripe sends the money to your Stripe account. This happens straight after the release.
  5. Stripe pays it into your bank. In Australia this usually takes about 2 business days. Your very first payout can take 7 to 14 days (Stripe: payouts). Deposits are listed on your Payouts page (see The Payouts page).

VPA Connect doesn't email you to confirm it received your request. The request shows in the job's payment history straight away.

  1. Paid to date: released to you by the agency.
  2. Pending: requested by you and waiting for the agency.
  3. Available: what you can still request.
  4. Payment history: each request, its status and, once paid, its Client invoice and Platform fee invoice.

Why haven't I been paid?

  • The job isn't on your Outstanding page. The seller hasn't paid the campaign yet. Ask the agent.
  • Your request is still Pending. The agency hasn't released it. Contact the agent or the agency's accounts staff; only certain staff can release payments.
  • It's released but not in your bank. Allow about 2 business days, or 7 to 14 for your first payout. Check your Payouts page.
  • The agent says "Payouts disabled". Stripe needs more information from you, and VPA Connect doesn't show you this message. See Stripe needs more information.

Fees

VPA Connect doesn't deduct a supplier platform fee at present. If one is introduced, the payment request form shows it as a Platform Fee row before you submit. The screenshots in these guides come from a test system where a fee is switched on.
